GEN IN ONE WORD

by Karen Rae in GEN Philosophy, GENisms

When asked to describe my company in one word,

I didn't have to think about it at all.

The core heart and soul of GEN is of course . . . .

COMPASSION.

Compassion for loved ones and friends alike,

certainly for ourselves,

and perhaps to reach much further,

the billions we do not even know, or love,

or who are very very different from ourselves.

Among the synonyms in the good old dictionary are the words

MERCY,

Tenderness,

and HEART.

I love these.

Personally, I'd also add . . .

Generosity

of standing alongside,

with an Open mind

and uninterrupted Presence

and Kindness of words;

especially in times of conflict and unease.

Now I'll just let you know my compassion

isn't perfected yet and that's okay.

No, my compassion isn't perfect.

Like me.

It is more like an umbrella of an idea,

a process of something much deeper.

What I know is compassion isn't always

about being perfectly loving

or careful.

It isn't about being perpetually nice.

Often the compassionate thing to do is to tell our truth.

For real.

Or hold our ground

in the midst of pressure to conform.

To not settle for mediocrity.

Sometimes it's to hold ground for another

who may not be able in the moment to hold their own.

We've got to have room for it all.

To open our hearts wide,

to honor and hold the conflicting opinions and

millions of stories which become the individual body of our lives.

In the end it is our humanity we have in common.

And this is our belonging.

I wish you a day,

and a week,

and a life of Tenderness and Heart,

Generous relationships

of TRUE Kindness and most of all

lasting

Compassion.
